Kerry Magro’s blog this week featured Sherry Quan Lee’s book And You Can Love Me! a story for everyone who loves someone with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
First, the book recognizes nonverbal autism. This is a representation we don’t have enough of in our entertainment industry today. As Sherry quotes in the book from my dear friend Stephen Shore “If you’ve met one individual with autism, you’ve met one individual with autism.” Second, the emphasis in the book of ‘entering a child’s world.’ When I give talks about my journey from nonverbal to professional speaker I often discuss the importance of meeting a child where they are in their own development. This is so eloquently featured in And You Can Love Me and will help younger children truly embrace this when meeting and hopefully befriending children with autism. I would recommend this book without reservations and encourage you to grab a copy to add to your read list.
